Although we are specialists in all types of personal injury law, injuries arising from road traffic accidents are the most common and whiplash is the most complained of symptom. Here is a quick guide to whiplash and whiplash claiming:

Whiplash definition:

Whiplash is a soft tissue injury that affects the neck and shoulder area of your body. It is caused by an often violent and sudden jerking/jolting of this area. For example, you are correctly proceeding in your motor vehicle when it is hit at speed from the rear – your body, in particular your head / neck, will be suddenly thrown forwards; your seatbelt will then kick in and then your head will be thrown backwards. It is this type of sudden and violent movement that causes whiplash.

What is whiplash?

Whiplash is a funny old injury and can be best described as a soft tissue injury which is sustained when your neck is suddenly and forcefully jerked. For example, whiplash frequently occurs in road traffic accidents where your car is hit from the rear by another vehicle. Your neck is suddenly jerked forward and then goes back and the soft tissue injury is sustained. That said, whiplash injuries are not confined to road traffic accidents and can be picked up during sports; for example, if you received a violent tackle in rugby.

Whiplash Symptoms Your Comprehensive Guide

I am not only writing this guide to you as an expert in advising accident victims suffering from whiplash injuries, but also as a fellow whiplash sufferer myself. The thing is, whiplash symptoms can vary significantly between different people, and can last for seemingly random lengths of time.

I was having my weekly physio session this morning when I thought of writing this guide. My accident was on May 1st of this year, and I’m still suffering – although the symptoms have eased off a lot. My physiotherapist, who is very good might I add, has found the last area (so to speak) of where my whiplash injury remains stalwart and stubborn and quite considerably painful.
